WORKSHOP D1 - Medication-Assisted Treatment in Different Practice Settings: Patients' Perspective

Tuesday, April 15, 2003

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

This presentation, part of a Basic Track Workshop, is the first of ibogaine at the major methadone conference in the United States and was accomplished through Mr. Lotsof's affiliations with the National Alliance of Methadone Advocates (NAMA) where he serves as a member of their Board of Directors and Membership Director. The presentation, a comparison of early generation ibogaine and methadone patient and advocate status is anticipated to provide information on ibogaine to an audience of methadone patients, counselors and providers. Normal participation in Basic Track Workshops offering CME and CEU credits number approximately 400 persons. This is a unique opportunity to present ibogaine information from a patient perspective to the methadone community, currently serving over 200,000 patients in the United States.

FINANICAL SUPPORT NEEDED

In 2000 and 2001, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), a federal agency funded Mr. Lotsof's participation at American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence Conferences where he presented on methadone topics. However, this year CSAT initially determined not to provide support for Mr. Lotsof to attend the Conference and present on ibogaine. Financial support is needed to allow the ibogaine presentation and produce a brochure on the subject for conference participants. Tax deductible contributions can be made to the Dora Weiner Foundation. Checks should be written to Dora Weiner Foundation and mailed to DWF, 46 Oxford Place, Staten Island, NY 10301 or visit the Dora Weiner Foundation web page for donation information and projects.

The National Alliance of Methadone Advocates and the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence are thanked for their assistance and support.
